The Junior Ducks are where it all begins.

Developed in an integrated manner, alongside our other year-round hockey programs, the Ducks train and compete in the Winter season, which aligns with the Term 2 & 3 school calendar.

Led by Steve Belic - our Head of Coaching & Player Development - the Ducks program places equal emphasis on skating, skill and hockey IQ.

Most importantly, our program is delivered in an inclusive and welcoming environment that strives to enrich our players lives, both on and off the ice.

The iceHQ Ducks are committed to working with our young athletes to ensure they’re as successful away from the rink as they are on the ice.

TEAM SELECTION POLICY

We’re committed to building teams that embody sportsmanship, dedication, and a love for the game. While we aim to accommodate as many players as possible, team sizes are limited. Selection is based on:

  • Skill Level: Demonstrated ability on the ice.

  • Teamwork: Collaboration and positive team dynamics.

  • Attitude: Sportsmanship and coachability.

  • Commitment: Attendance and engagement.

Playing Up Opportunities

The Ducks follow the IHV guidelines for "playing up" in a higher division. This may entail exclusive allocation to the higher division or dual-division participation depending on team numbers.

Playing up is at coach discretion and permitted under the following conditions:

  • Players must demonstrate the capability to compete effectively at the higher level.

  • Players must demonstrate coachability and sportsmanship.

  • Parents or guardians must sign an injury waiver to acknowledge the increased physical risk and skill demands.

  • Only top-age players from a lower division are eligible to play up in the next higher division (IHV policy).

  • IHV must approve the request to play up.

  • Goalies may play up more than one division, depending on team needs and ability.

  • There may be additional game and training fees for dual-division players.

We aim to balance playing up opportunities for capable players with fairness to others in the higher division by minimising dilution of ice time.
