The City of Darebin is located on the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung People of the Kulin Nation.
They are the Traditional Owners of this land.
There are also many other Aboriginal people who live and work within the City of Darebin. There are unique practices in place designed to acknowledge and pay respects to the traditional owners and Elders of the Wurundjeri Community including the convention of verbal and written acknowledgements, Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremonies.
The Darebin Website includes a written acknowledgement on each page and other protocols are followed in the preparation of speeches and at the introduction of meetings. Council has also commenced the process of placing acknowledgment plaques on Council buildings.
